Honda Marine Port Shepstone
With each Newsletter we’ll be introducing you to the Honda Marine Dealer Network, letting you know where your nearest Honda Marine dealer is situated and also giving you background into how Honda Marine has been able to so effectively establish itself in the South African market.

Working our way around the coast and then inland, we’re now heading off to Honda Marine Port Shepstone. Here we find ourselves in discussion with Robert Alldred who looks after the Sales and Technical side of the operation.
Why did you choose Honda in terms of wanting to be a Marine dealer?
Honda is the premier brand of outboard engines in the world. As a company, they are the largest engine manufacturer globally and based on their phenomenal quality, reliability and performance throughout all their various product and model ranges, the name Honda just speaks for itself, so the decision to tie-up with Honda was an easy one.

How long have you been a Honda Marine dealer?
We opened up our doors for trading in December 2010, and since then we haven’t looked back as the Honda Marine brand just goes from strength to strength.

Jaco Englebrecht – Branch Manager and Sales

With what Boat Manufacturers do you have direct tie-ups?
We do not have any direct ties to any boat builders and will source any boat from any builder based on what the customer wants.
What types of Boat Packages are most popular in your area?
We are able to offer the customer whatever boat package will best suit his individual application and overall needs, however being based at Port Shepstone on the South Coast, we find that the biggest demand is for larger offshore boats fitted with twin Honda BF50HP up to twin BF90HP outboards.

In what main areas does your Workshop specialise?
We off a wide range of Workshop services ranging from the servicing of Honda outboard engines as well as other makes, to fiberglass repairs, the overhauling of and repairs to all makes of outboards, the rigging of all types of boats and outboards, the cleaning and polishing of boats, together with on-site repairs and servicing.

With which Leisure Accessory companies are you involved?
We don’t carry a wide range of watertoys as we are primarily a major fishing area. We do carry some tubes and ski ropes, otherwise if a customer has a specific leisure accessory need, then we’ll order it from Rutherford Marine.
With which Navigational Equipment companies are you involved?
We have built up good working relationships with both Lowrance and Furuno for whom we are the local suppliers and agents. They offer a comprehensive range of products which give navigational solutions to all our boating package requirements.
Do you offer sell Canoes/ Kayaks
There is very little requirement for canoes and kayaks in our local waters, so at this stage we don’t offer them. The majority of our customers prefer to be in bigger boats with some Honda power to propel them.

In the case of Customer Emergencies or Problems, do you offer a Call-Out service?
We do go on call-outs as we have a large number of commercial boats that are just too large to bring into the workshop. These call-out fees are then obviously dependent on the distance we have to travel and on the work that needs to be carried out, all of which is communicated directly with each and every customer.

Do you have a specific message for the readers?
As mentioned earlier, Honda is the premier brand of outboard engines and is both the leader and the original founder of four-stroke outboard technology. Honda has an incredible reliability and performance record which is something that we want to share with both our existing and our future potential customer base. So whatever you boating package need, please contact Jaco or myself at Honda Marine Port Shepstone.
